Every Year CDS Written Examination Is Conducted Two Times For Selecting Candidates For

  • Indian Military Academy (IMA), Dehradun
  • Naval Academy, Ezhimala, Kannur, Kerala 
  • Air Force Academy, Begumpet, Hyderabad

The Tentative Notification for the examination is usually released in the months of August and March, and the examinations are conducted in February and August-November respectively

An aspirant appearing in final year or final semester of graduation can also apply for all the courses provided he/she carry out the following conditions:-

  • A Candidate should not have any current log jam and should have scored a minimum of 50% marks in cumulative in all papers put collectively upto the final semester / year during the time of online form submission and at the time of SSB.
  • A Candidate should be capable to make available provisional / original degree certificate issued by University before joining the academy.

Negative Marking

  • In CDS exam, first two exams that are of English and GK, each question contains 0.83 marks and for each wrong answer 0.27 marks are deducted
  • In Elementary Mathematics, each question contains 1 mark and for each wrong answer 0.33 marks are deducted

Important to Note

  1. Those joining the first three institutes get permanent commission, however cadets passing out of OTA get short service commission
  2. Elementary Mathematics is not required for admission to Officers Training Academy (OTA)
  3. The exam is of Objective Type

Educational Qualifications

  • For IMA /OTA: A degree from a recognized University or equivalent.
  • For Naval Academy: B.Sc. with Physics and/or Mathematics or Bachelor of Engineering.
  • For Air Force Academy: B.sc. of a recognized University or equivalent with Physics and/or Mathematics as subjects or Bachelor of Engineering

Interview Marks

  • The total maximum marks for the interview will be 200 for OTA and 300 for IMA, Naval and Air Force.
  • Candidates for the Air Force wing and Naval Aviation will also undergo a Pilot Aptitude Test.

Note : Officers like Qualities to be expected from an Officer in Defence Forces.
