National Defence Academy Exam

WHAT IS NDA?

The National Defence Academy (NDA) is the combined Services military institute of the Indian Armed Forces, where military students of the three armed forces, The Indian Army, The Indian Air Force and The Indian Navy are coached collectively before they go on to pre-commissioning training in their respective service academies

The National Defence Academy is located at Khadakwasla in Maharashtra near Pune

National Defence Academy is the national institute for providing training to the selected youngsters (i.e Men Only) for officer level entrance into the Indian Armed forces. It is a training capability for the leaders of tomorrow who will be appreciated and pursued.

During training a military student gets the chance to complete their graduation in Arts, Sciences or Computers. The training is divided into six semesters and the overall period of training is 3 years

Once the training is completed, a military student is honored with his bachelor degree from Jawaharlal Nehru University, Delhi at the time of passing out parade at National Defence Academy. Afterwards all trained military students depart for their respective service institutions i.e. The Indian Military Academy (Dehradun) for army cadets, The Naval Academy (Cochin) for Naval Cadets and The Air Force Academy (Hyderabad) for Air force cadets

HOW TO APPLY FOR NATIONAL DEFENCE ACADEMY

A written examination for National Defence Academy and Naval Academy is conducted by Union Public Services Commission twice in a year. The Announcement for NDA exam comes into view in all major nationwide newspapers in the month of Dec/Jan for the April exam and in the months of May/June for the September exam

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

Age : Between 16 ½ to 19 ½ years as on the first day of the month in which the course gets started
Qualification : 12th Class
Note : Mathematics and Physics are obligatory subjects for Indian Air force and Indian Navy. Commerce and Arts students can apply for army
Sex : Only male candidates can apply
Marital Status : Un Married

DURATION OF TRAINING

For Army Cadets : 3 years at NDA and 1 year at IMA
For Naval Cadets : 3 years at NDA and 1 year at Naval Academy
For Air Force Cadets : 3 years at NDA and 18 months at Air Force Academy

NDA EXAM PATTERN

NDA written examination is comprised of two sets. Both the sets are conducted on the same day, consecutively

MATHEMATICS

Algebra, Matrices and Determinants, Trigonometry, Analytical Geometry of two and three dimensions, Differential Calculus, Integral Calculus and Differential equations, Vector Algebra, Statistics and Probability etc

GENERAL ABILITY TEST

Part ‘A’ – ENGLISH 
Grammatical errors, Comprehensions, Antonyms and Synonyms, Para jumbling, Cloze Test, Idioms and Phrases, One word substitutions etc
 
Part ‘B’ – GENERAL KNOWLEDGE 
Science, Geography, History, Polity, General Awareness, Current Affairs, Economy

Note: Result for NDA written examination is declared after 3 months of the examination conduction on the UPSC website. There is no fixed cut off percentage for passing the examination. After clearing the written examination SSB Interview call letters are sent to the selected aspirants. The merit list for the final selection of deserving candidates is prepared after conducting the SSB Interview and finally joining letters are sent to the selected cadets based on opportunity available as per the merit list.
